TemplateData är ett sätt att lagra information om mallparametrar (beskrivningen för dessa och för hela mallen) för både människor och maskiner. De används av VisualEditor och förmodligen andra verktyg som uppladdningsguiden.

Befintlig malldokumentation
På Wikimedia Commons rekommenderas det att använda {{TemplateBox}} med antingen useTemplateData=1 eller useTemplateData=only på undersidan /doc och mallinkludera den med {{Documentation}} i mallen. Taggarna <nowiki> kan omsluta argumenten, om det behövs, för att undvika att mallarna utvidgas.

Nyligt skapad malldokumentation och importeringar
Another option, especially for imported templates, or for users with JSON experience, is placing raw <templatedata>-tags into the Wikitext or the template as described in various Wikipediae.
